Freshwater Mollusk Propagation and Restoration
April 12, 2027
DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Philadelphia Center City
Philadelphia, PA
Freshwater mollusk propagation has supported species recovery for more than 30 years. During that time, the number of state, federal, tribal, and nongovernmental facilities producing mollusks has grown substantially. New hatcheries are being developed, existing fish hatcheries are being adapted, and propagation is playing an increasing role in efforts to restore wild populations.
The practice is changing quickly. Advances in propagation and culture are accompanied by a growing understanding of mollusk health, biosecurity, and conservation genetics. Yet the demands on propagation facilities can make it difficult to share lessons beyond regional work groups or technical reports.
This full-day workshop brings practitioners together to discuss recent successes, challenges, and lessons learned. Presentations and discussions led by subject matter experts will address propagation, culture, and planning, with a look at where the field has been, where it stands today, and what is needed next.
This workshop precedes the 2027 AMS/FMCS Joint Meeting: Our Molluscan Lives.
The workshop is intended for hatchery practitioners, resource managers, conservation biologists, and researchers working with propagated freshwater mollusks.
